Abstract: Paula S. Waddle was a Dallas native but Corpus Christi appointed municipal court judge and attorney who specialized in business tax, real estate and commercial litigation. Ephemera, correspondence, letters, newspaper clippings and court case materials document her personal life as well as her extensive professional career.

Biographical Note

Paula Sue Waddle (1947-2008) originally from Dallas, TX received her B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1969 and her J.D. from UT Austin Law School in 1976. Waddle practiced business tax, real estate, commercial litigation, immigration and general law. She worked as the lead attorney for the largest Small Business Administration Office in Corpus Christi from 1979 to 1982. She was appointed municipal court judge from 1982 to 1986. At the same time, she worked for the F.L. Edmunds Law Firm from 1983 to 1986. After leaving the firm, Waddle had a solo practice in Brownsville and was a Political Science professor at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 1997. She later worked as the Legal Counsel for the South Texas Immigration Counsel in 2001. In 2006, Waddle spent time working as a law librarian for the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals Law Library in Brownsville.

Aside from being an attorney and judge, Waddle supported and served on organizations such as the Corpus Christi Area Women’s Political Caucus, Cameron County Commission on the Status of Women, National Association of Women Judges, Austin Women’s Political Caucus, South Texas Women’s Forum, Leadership Texas Alumnae Association and the West Dallas Community Interest Group.

Paula Sue Waddle died on January 4, 2008 in San Benito, Texas.

Scope and Contents Note

Series one of the Paula S. Waddle Papers comprises material from her childhood to her college and law school years. Included are items such as family records, diplomas, certificates, grade reports, letters, ephemera, correspondence, newspaper clippings, articles, financial statements, a scrapbook, loose photographs and planners.

The second series includes items from Ms. Waddle’s law career beginning with her time in law school. Materials include: transcripts, evaluations, letters, certificates, correspondence, ephemera, applications, newspaper clippings, articles, notes, essays, newsletters, booklets, magazines, resumes, biographies, press release, employment records and court case documents.
