Administrative HistoryThe Grandmothers' Delight group was organized by Suzanne M. Lindeman Snyder and Mabel B. Pitts in November, 1983. Both women were excited about the prospect of being first time grandmothers and invited other grandmothers to Lindeman's house to discuss the importance of grandparenting. The purpose of the group was to understand the role of grandparents, develop grandparenting skills through sharing with other grandparents and planned programs, and stay informed about intergenerational developments in this country. The group had approximately 25 to 35 members at any one time and met monthly omitting December and the summer months. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsThe collection of the Grandmothers' Delight group consists mainly of documents related to the organization, including financial and administrative records, membership records, newspaper clippings, correspondence, programming information and photographs dating from 1983 to 2010. The organization maintained two (2) three-ring binders that held the group's official records, one covered the period 1983 through 1998 and the other the period 1999 through 2010. The materials in each binder were divided into the following sections: history and duties, programs, members (roster), letters, activities, photographs (many captioned), notices (of meetings) and deaths (obituaries). In addition to the binders there is financial information including treasurer's reports dated 1985 - 2009; information about the Travis County Support Group for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren from the late 1980s; a collection of programming ideas in the form of newspaper clippings and flyers; and a scrapbook that contains newspaper clippings about children and children's programs dating from 1985-1991.
